It is truly the “have it fast” age. Look around and you will see how our society wants everything fast. Fast food is the perfect example. The pounds and inches we spent years sticking to our wastline and butt are expected to just go away with a little bit of dieting and exercise. Does this make sense to you? I hope not.
Let me tell you what happens nearly all of the time so you can avoid the dieting disasters. You see, your body has a memory, or what it determines to be “normal”. Eventaully, you decide that you no longer like this “normal” condition, and choose to make some changes. So, you go on a crash diet, begin to work out, and possibly begin lose some inches. At some point you are highly likely to slack off some. You think you reached your goal (or close to it), soon the old habits are defeating your will, and you slide back into your old habits. In your mind, you have been successful, but your body is looking to get back to normal. What is normal you ask? Back to where you began before the diet; Fat and flabby! In addition, your body is so smart that it decides to pack on a few extra pounds or inches just to be on the safe side. This is the “rebound”.
The truth is, the “rebound” can be avoided very easily. It all starts with a well thought out plan with reasonable expectations. You have to develop a revised lifestyle or “normal” for your body. Short term dieting won’t work. You have to go long enough to develop a new memory for your body. It’s impossible to do this with normal dieting or a work out plan. You have to understand what your body reacts to and also realize that you will have good days and bad days, or as I like to say, good days and better days. What do you think is better; 3 steps forward and one step back, over and over, or 10 steps forward (getting exhausted) and 12 steps back and stopping?
Most people believe that dieting as a fast fix for a long term problem. The truth is that it’s a long term problem created by a short term effort, to mask a lifelong choice. The solution is really very simple and only has to be done once. Please, don’t make your life worse by jumping into a ridiculous diet plan.
