<p>Trying To Lose Weight Can Be Frightening! You must realise that &#8216;losing weight&#8217; isn&#8217;t just our problem &#8211; a whole industry has been built on it. Several billion dollars of diet products are purchased every year.</p>
<p>So How Extensive Is Obesity? It&#8217;s quite likely that you&#8217;re hoping to drop at least a few pounds, even if your problem isn&#8217;t extreme. It&#8217;s now believed that in the USA alone, around seventy percent of people are too heavy. Which amounts to some two hundred and ten million folks&#8230;</p>
<p>Other countries are catching up fast too&#8230; It&#8217;s a sorry state of affairs.</p>

<p>Surveys in the UK show that getting on for one fourth of all adults suffer from obesity. But what&#8217;s worse &#8211; By 2050 the obesity level could be ninety per cent!</p>
<p>Are those figures really set in concrete? There isn&#8217;t anyone who wants it to carry on like this. Easy to follow information is what&#8217;s needed. We shouldn&#8217;t have to spend a fortune on diet products.</p>
<p>It is commonly understood in medical circles that weight problems lead to other difficulties, including&#8230; Type two diabetes; mental health problems; high blood pressure; heart disease and heart failure; cancer; liver disease; osteoarthritis and high cholesterol.</p>
<p>Obviously with the threat of all these health issues, reducing our weight is a major priority. Fat loss isn&#8217;t about getting to size zero &#8211; you should be aiming for a weight that&#8217;s good for your health. The RIGHT weight varies so much between people, but we usually have a fairly good idea of what&#8217;s comfortable, and what we can maintain.</p>
<p>Our sons and daughters weight is also important. It&#8217;s our responsibility as the adults in the house to help our children adopt sensible habits where diet is concerned. We&#8217;re not the only ones who&#8217;ll suffer if we continue doing what we&#8217;ve always done. We (and our kids) will get more of what we&#8217;ve already got. Which parents would wish that on their kids?</p>

<p>Eating healthy can be easy and simple to implement. Once you start making choices that are healthy and incorporate the habit into your life, it becomes second nature and you won&#8217;t have to think about it much again. Make sure you always have healthy food choices available and the rest is a piece of cake.</p>
<p>When thinking about a meal or a snack, it needs to incorporate a proper balance between a protein, carbohydrate and fat.  </p>
<p><span id="more-288"></span></p>
<p>Have you established for yourself your caloric consumption needs?  I know for myself, if I want to maintain my weight, I should not eat any more than 1500 calories per day.  If I want to lose, my daily calorie intake is no more than 1200 calories per day.  </p>
<p>Once you figure out how many calories you should be eating, you then need to divide them out over 5-6 small meals/snacks throughout the day. Remember that the meals/snacks should compliment each other with a adequate balance of protein, carbohydrates, and fats. Let me give you an example of these choices to make during the day.</p>
<p>I should quickly mention something about portion sizes. Do you know what a serving of protein looks like? No, it&#8217;s not the 16 ounce Prime Rib at your local steak house. A portion of protein is 3 ounces, the size of a woman&#8217;s palm.</p>
<p>SOME VISUAL EXAMPLES OF DIFFERENT FOOD PORTIONS:</p>
<p>* 1 medium fruit &#8212; tennis ball or tight fist</p>
<p>* 1/2 cup of rice, pasta, cooked cereal, fruit, or veggie &#8212; cupcake size or tight fist</p>
<p>* 1 cup of salad &#8212; the amount you can hold in two hands cupped together.</p>
<p>* 1 medium baked potato &#8212; computer mouse</p>
<p>* 1 cup of cold cereal &#8212; large handful or tight fist </p>
<p>* 3 ounces of poultry, meat or fish &#8212; palm of a woman&#8217;s hand or deck of cards</p>
<p>* 1 ounce of cheese &#8212; top half of your thumb or 4 dice</p>
<p>* 1 ounce of poultry, fish, chicken or meat &#8212; 1 egg</p>
<p>* 1 tsp &#8212; the tip of a medium-framed woman&#8217;s thumb. Also, 3 tsp is equal to 1 tbsp.</p>
<p>BREAKFAST:</p>
<p>It is important to start the day with a good breakfast. A good breakfast is needed to maintain level blood sugars throughout the morning. Try to keep breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the same calorie count and then add two to three snacks between meals to make up the 5-6 recommended meals.</p>
<p>Choose an item from each of the food groups for a healthy balanced breakfast.</p>
<p>Protein:  1 cup low fat yogurt, 1 oz of low fat cheese, 1 cup nonfat milk, 1 hard boiled egg </p>
<p>Carbohydrate:  1/2 cup of whole grain cereal or oatmeal, granola bar, 1 slice of whole grain toast, bagel or muffin.</p>
<p>Fruit:  1/2 banana, small apple, orange, grapefruit,  3/4 cup of raspberries, strawberries, blueberries</p>
<p>LUNCH AND DINNER:</p>
<p>Preparing lunch and dinner is very simple.  Pick a lean protein, add some vegetables and top it off with some fruit for dessert.</p>
<p>Choose an item from each of the food groups for a healthy balanced lunch or dinner.</p>
<p>Protein:  Turkey, lean beef, pork, chicken, fish, beans, etc.</p>
<p>Vegetable:  Salad greens, spinach, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, and green beans, etc.  For a serving size, fill about 1/4 of your plate with protein, 1/2 of your plate with vegetables,  and the other quarter with healthy carbohydrates.</p>
<p>Carbohydrate:  1 slice of whole grain bread, brown rice, corn, sweet potatoes, white potatoes, etc.  </p>
<p>Dessert:  1/2 cup of strawberries or raspberries with a dollop of nonfat whipped topping, pear, apple, 1/2 banana.</p>
<p>SNACKS:</p>
<p>Snacks between meals are what make or break the weight loss.  You need to maintain your metabolism in between meals so that you continue to burn calories throughout the day.  For your snack, consume between 100 to 125 calories.</p>
<p>Choose an item from each of the food groups for a healthy balanced snack.</p>
<p>Protein: 1 oz. low sodium, low fat luncheon meat, low fat string cheese, hard boiled egg, small yogurt cup, 1/4 cup of low fat cottage cheese.</p>
<p>Carbohydrate:  Baby carrots, 1 slice of whole grain bread, 1/2 banana, apple, grapes, plum, etc.</p>
<p>Healthy fats:  Handful of almonds, walnuts cashews or mixed nuts, 1 slice of avocado, 2 tbsp of peanut butter.</p>
<p>This doesn&#8217;t have to hard.  These are just guidelines for healthy foods.  Don&#8217;t make this boring by eating the same thing every day.  There are so many more foods then what I listed here but be creative. Try a new fruit and vegetable every week. Remember, this is easy!</p>

<p>Teens who have weight issues can no longer be excused by saying they have puppy fat as all too many end up with serious health problems. This is something that has to be dealt with if they are to prevent health problems in the future. Never has there been been a period when young people were more self conscious and obsessed with their own self image &#8211; a true formula for future issues when weight is an issue. While a number of individuals see education as the way forward, some people have set up training camps purely for teen weight loss reasons.</p>
<p>The problem, if not resolved, will only get worse as they grow older and will create physical and emotional issues as they become adults. Quite a few overweight people suffer with many ailments associated with serious weight gain including:</p>
<p><span id="more-271"></span></p>
<p>Heart disease</p>
<p>Conditions associated with poor circulation</p>
<p>Diabetes</p>
<p>Hormone abnormalities</p>
<p>Learning about a teen weight loss plan will help avoid these circumstances. There are also emotional problems to take into consideration as many overweight teens suffer at school from name calling which does not help them the least bit.</p>
<p>Frequently, these names follow them around for quite a few years into adulthood and do nothing to help the self image of the individual concerned. Some people only blame the large number of overweight teenagers as an indication of the times and even though this is now a big issue, many parents do not know how to approach this subject and do not feel that there is much support. Surplus weight is becoming a serious problem worldwide and dealing with it has become a billion dollar industry with all kinds of so called &#8216;miracle cures&#8217; on offer, some actually work while others offer some help, although most do not help at all.</p>
<p>Teen weight loss programs should spotlight the need to rid surplus fat from their bodies and their diets programs if they want to become, and remain, healthier. The first point a parent should be mindful of is the tendency to over react and if this comes about the child will pickup on your concern because growing overweight did not happen overnight &#8211; likewise the problem is not going to disappear overnight either. If possible confer with a medical practitioner, but at the same time do some reading on the subject of teen weight loss as there is a wealth of information available. Plans should be selected carefully for their effectiveness otherwise money can be lost and youngsters can lose heart.</p>
<p>One essential point to bear in mind is that strict teen weight loss programs can be risky. Many of these are crash diet programs which use starvation as the weight loss method, but often these are the cause of other health issues. A parent needs to look at methods of lessening body fat of their child, while at the same time not increasing the issues linked with some of the weight loss programs that promise this quickly.</p>

<p>There is one fundamental reason as to why you haven&#8217;t been able to loose the pounds despite your most dogged and sincere efforts.  And that reason boils down to one word&#8211; TOXICITY!
